Peeps!!

We made Peep S’Mores and wrote Peep poetry for our Spring Celebration last Friday.  A good time was had by all!  Even Ms. Fennell tried a Peep, but only after shouts of, “Eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!”  Here is a sample Peep poem written by one of our students.

Happy New Year!

Our class celebrated 2014 with a countdown to 1:00pm on January 2.  We watched fireworks (on the computer), blew horns, and wore party hats.  After the countdown, we enjoyed some sparkling apple cider.  We invited Mrs. Baeta and Mrs. Davis to join in on our toasts.  We toasted to a great new year and all agreed that we can’t wait to learn and grow in 2014!

Our Favorite Stuffed Animals

Before we went off track, we read the book Corduroy, by Don Freeman.  We got to bring our favorite stuffed animals to school.  We were so excited!  Queen Fen Fen came to our class and we wrote 2 whole paragraphs about our favorite animals.  Here are a few quotes taken from our writing.  I’m sorry I missed some of you in the pictures.

“If Chloe went on an adventure like Corduroy, I think she will get out of bed and set the party up.  Then she will wake the other animals and dance crazy too and eat pizza!” (Ava)

“Fixerter is a blood hound.  He is black and his ears are striped.” (Honey)

“Jerry is round and is a furry cow.  The color is black and white polka dot, and that looks smart.” (Justin)

“If Shareton went on an adventure like Corduroy, I think he would find a tail because he does not have a tail!” (Haylie)

“I got Keaton Jr. when I was 7.  Keaton Jr. is a bear.  He is fluffy and he is cute.” (Keaton)

“Jake has yellow dots and black and the yellow sometimes gets in the black hair.  He has an old looking tail.” (Jordan)

“Fluffy Pants is my favorite because he is fluffy and cute and I like it when he smiles.” (Scarlett)

“Ellejellka has bright eyes.  Her favorite food is steak.  She likes to eat it.” (Cornelia)

“Aflac is my favorite.  He makes a sound and I laugh so hard.  I think when he slips out of bed he would maybe go to the pond.” (Christopher)

“If Pooh went on an adventure like Corduroy, I think he would go wandering off trying to find some pants.” (Kyla)

“Noname is a lion.  Noname is sometimes brown.  My sister got me this lion.  Noname is my favorite because he is fun to play with.” (Anthony)

“I think Pillow Pets would go into the kitchen at night and pour some milk and eat all the cookies out of the cookie jar and go to bed.” (Katrina)

“Logen is cute with a bow.  Logen has shinky black eyes.  He likes to watch Spongebob Squarpants with me.” (Jacob)

“If Piggy went on an adventure like Corduroy, I think she will go to a castle and be a princess.  Piggy is my favorite stuffed animal and I love her so much!” (Wanqi)

Pi Day!

Today we celebrated Pi Day!  March 14….3/14.  We used Skittles and M&M’s to find the ratio of a circle’s circumference and its diameter.  Although our answers varied, the ratio was slightly over 3.  We learned that the number pi is an irrational number and continues infinitely.  The world record for reciting Pi is up to 100,000 digits.  It took the man from Japan over 16 hours to recite that many numbers of Pi.

Sly Park Adventures……by Wilson

Packages, luggage, flash lights , chapstick, what am I missing?   We are readying for the Sly Park field trip.  We have waited too long for this trip, so we have to be extra careful with what we are going to bring.  We are going on a five-day field trip to the most famous place of all the time…..Sly park!

After the transportation, we stretched out to welcome the cool breeze of Sly Park. I stepped on the land of Sly Park, and saw the views I have never seen before. The fresh air made my lungs comfortable.  Splendid as it was, we still had a task to finish. We unloaded the packages, carried them to our room , and gathered around in the gym  .After about 10,000 hours(at least to me), we got to have a little fun at the gym. After a few seconds, all I heard was people shouting and cheering.  The basketballs were flying to the basket and suddenly met by other basketballs in the air. However, crowded as it is, there was still orders. It’s a good thing that everybody follow the rules because safety is important.

Hiking and learning is the main purpose why were we going to Sly Park. After we checked out our bunker cabin, we got our “armor” , fill our water bottle, hiking trails, and………check out mushrooms, rocks , and wild life. Our teacher in Sly Park told us how to recognize plants as poisoness or edible. Douglus Fir, for example, contains an abundance of vitamin C in its leaves, Dispite of my curiosity, I chewed on one of the Douglus Fir leaves, the sourness of it ran straight through my veins.

At last, we had to leave Sly Park. It was a misfortune to leave the place where we were all so glad to be. I took a last looked of Sly Park and thought when we will come back again.

Egyptian Masks……by Layla

In January, we made our Egyptian masks. We had a lecture on what to do, and then the fun began. Everybody got with a partner and they would one by one cover each others face. First, we got a paper bag filled with the materials we were going to use. Next, we had hard sticky vaseline rubbed all over our face. Then, we dipped some plaster strips in hot water to mold and cover our entire face. The strips were warm and gooey when they touched our faces. After the strips were on, we let them cool and harden. An adult slightly pulled the mask off and we were done. The mask process was not only weird but cool and I am totally looking forward to decorating them.
